League of Legends is a free MOBA online game where two teams of five players compete to destroy each other's base.
Each player controls a champion with unique abilities and works with their team to win matches that typically last between 20 to 40 minutes.
I started playing League of Legends in 2010, and the game has grown significantly since then.
The game takes place in a map called Summoner's Rift, which has three lanes connecting the bases of both teams. Between these lanes, you'll find the jungle area filled with neutral monsters that give special bonuses when defeated.
Each team's base contains their Nexus - the main structure you need to destroy to win the game.
To reach the enemy Nexus, you must first break through defensive towers and fight against enemy champions. You earn gold by killing minions, monsters, and enemy structures. This gold lets you buy items to make your champion stronger.
The game has five different positions you can play:
- Top Lane: A solo player who fights in the top lane.
- Jungle: A player who kills jungle monsters and helps other lanes.
- Mid Lane: A solo player in the middle lane.
- Bottom Lane (ADC): A damage dealer who farms gold in the bottom lane.
- Support: A player who helps protect and empower the ADC.
For new players, I recommend starting with simple champions.
Garen is great for top lane because he's tough and has straightforward abilities. Lux works well in mid lane or as support since her skills are easy to understand. Ashe makes a good ADC because she has a helpful slow effect and a long-range arrow to start fights.
What is League of Legends really about? At its core, it's about teamwork and strategy.
You need to work with your teammates, make smart decisions about when to fight or farm gold, and understand how to use your champion's strengths.
The game offers endless opportunities to improve and master new champions.
The game keeps changing with regular updates that add new champions and adjust existing ones.
Currently, there are over 160 champions to choose from. New players start with access to a small pool of free champions, and can unlock more using Blue Essence earned from playing games.
Remember, League of Legends has a learning curve. Don't feel bad if you struggle at first - everyone does.
Focus on learning one position and a few champions well, then expand your knowledge as you get comfortable.
The game becomes more rewarding as you understand its depth and develop your skills.
