League of Legends takes up a lot of space on your computer. As the game gets bigger with updates, you might want to move it to a different drive.
I will show you how to move League of Legends to another drive using three different methods that work.
Method 1: Uninstall and Reinstall
This is the safest way to move the game:
- Open Windows Settings and uninstall League of Legends
- Open Riot Client on your desktop
- Click All Games at the bottom
- Select League of Legends
- Click Install
- Select your new drive location
- Wait for the installation to finish
Method 2: Copy and Paste
This method saves time because you won't need to download the game again:
- Open File Explorer
- Go to your current League of Legends folder (usually C:\Riot Games\League of Legends)
- Right-click the League of Legends folder and select Cut
- Go to your new drive
- Right-click and select Paste
- Find the League of Legends shortcut on your desktop
- Right-click and select Properties
- Update the path to match your new drive location
- Click OK to save changes
Method 3: Use Third-Party App Mover Software
You can use special software to move the game:
- Download an app mover like EaseUS Todo PCTrans
- Install and open the software
- Select App Migration
- Choose League of Legends from the list
- Pick your new drive location
- Start the transfer
- Wait for the process to finish
Which Drive Should You Choose?
Put League of Legends on an SSD if you have one. SSDs load games faster than regular hard drives. Make sure your new drive has at least 20GB of free space for the game and future updates.
If something goes wrong during the move, you can always uninstall the game completely and do a fresh install on your preferred drive. This will fix most problems.
Each method works well, but I recommend the uninstall and reinstall method if you don't mind downloading the game again. It's the most reliable way to avoid errors.
Remember to close League of Legends and the Riot Client before moving the game. This prevents file corruption during the transfer.
