Did League of Legends remove picking? Let me explain.
Riot didn't remove champion picking - they replaced Blind Pick mode with a new system called Quickplay.
The old Blind Pick mode let players choose any champion during champion select, often leading to conflicts over roles and champions. Players had to race to call their positions, and multiple people might try to pick the same champion.
Quickplay works differently.
You select up to two champions and positions before you even start looking for a game.
This guarantees you'll get to play your chosen champion in your preferred role. No more racing to call "mid" or fighting over popular champions.
This change makes the game more welcoming for new players. They can focus on learning their chosen champion without worrying about champion select drama.
It also helps experienced players who want to practice specific champions or roles.
You can still pick different champions - you just do it before queuing instead of during champion select.
The main difference is that you now have a guarantee to play what you want.
Draft Pick and Ranked modes keep their traditional picking and banning phase. These modes still let teams take turns picking champions and counter-picking opponents.
I should mention this change makes League more beginner-friendly.
New players often felt stressed about the old Blind Pick system. Now they can enter games knowing exactly what champion and role they'll play.
The game still offers plenty of champion choices. Quickplay just moves the selection process to before the queue instead of during champion select.
